The school provides a broad and balanced curriculum for all our pupils; including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and ensures full curriculum entitlement and access for all. We are committed to inclusion for all children in all areas. Individual needs will be met through the highest quality of education for all pupils and the efficient and effective use of resources.
Glen Hills Primary School is a mainstream setting and strives to be an inclusive school and has an ‘Inclusion Policy’ which focuses on inclusive practice and removing barriers to learning. It acknowledges the range of issues to be taken into account in the process of development. All pupils are welcome, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, in accordance with our admissions policy.

The SENDCo is the professional leader in the area of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and as such is responsible for:
- the day to day operation of the school’s Special Educational Needs Policy
- assisting staff in the identification and assessment of pupils with SEND
- advising on classroom and other appropriate strategies
- liaising with parents, support staff and other external agencies
- maintaining the school’s SEND files and records
- informing and advising the governors (especially SEND Governor)
- continuing the professional development of herself and staff in SEND
- contributing to staff training
- managing the budget for SEND in conjunction with the Head teacher and meeting with parents and other professionals to discuss SEND support (in particulur pupils with EHCPs and Intervention Funding).
SEND issues are regularly discussed at staff meetings. All staff are made aware of their responsibilities towards pupils with SEND and clear communication lines between teachers, support staff and specialist staff are established.
We support children with SEND through various means -
Curriculum Support:
- Adaption of learning in class as needed through quality first teaching and intervention
- Specialist teaching advice and support from external agencies (eg, Speech and Language therapy support (SALT))
- English as Additional Language (EAL), where this overlaps with SEND
- Pupil Premium tuition where this overlaps with SEND
- Additional Classroom support staff.
Communication and interaction difficulties:
- Speech and Language support (SALT)
- Social skills groups (Funtime and Tasktime)
- Autism Outreach Support
- Hearing Impaired service support
- Visually Impaired service support
- Birkett House support
- Oakfield school support (PRU)
- Nuffield Early Language Intervention (NELI).
Behaviour and emotional support:
- Oakfield School support
- Risk Assessment review meetings by Senior Managment to support behaviour management and emotional support strategies
- Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) support
- Links with CAMHS, Community Paediatricians, GP etc
- Early Help referals to support home behaviour
- School nurse referrals for support
- Sensory Room
- Acorn Room.
Physical Support:
- Adaption of school building
- Risk Assessments in place
- PEEPs in place (Emergency Evacuation Plans)
- Health Care Plans
- Physiotherapist/ Occupational therapist advice.
