Glen Hills Primary School (along with other schools in the Symphony Learning Trust) intend to offer ITT with the University of Northampton through School Direct PGCE with QTS training places for 2019-20, please get in touch for further information.
Teacher Training
Glen Hills Primary School is an outstanding school which has gained an excellent reputation over the years for training and developing teachers. For a number of years, we have worked successfully with Leicester University and their P.G.C.E. and Q.T.S. students. More recently, we have trained GTP students in conjunction with Derby University, many of whom are now employed within our staff.
Following the introduction of the School Direct Training Programme, Glen Hills applied to become Lead School with the University of Northampton from September 2014 as we felt we could put our extensive experience into training the next generation of teachers who feel they would benefit from being immersed in high quality and forward thinking, educational establishments. We have a number of specialist teachers at Glen Hills from P.E. to Science.
If you would like to train under the School Direct Programme with a group of fantastic schools who are well established in the field of teacher training, and a University with an extensive wealth of knowledge and quality, then look no further!
There are a number of Primary schools within Leicester and Leicestershire who are part of our School Direct Partnership. We would hope that after your placement we would be able to employ you at one of the following schools should your placement be successful and opportunities arise. However, you will be required to go through the interview process as normal under the ‘fair recruitment act’.

Comments from Ex-Trainee Teachers
Trainee Teacher G.T.P. Student
Completing my GTP at Glen Hills Primary School has been a fantastic experience. All the staff are extremely friendly and have fully support me throughout the year. This vibrant and exciting school has provided me with great opportunities and I am so glad I was able to complete my training here.
My experience of being on placement at Glen Hills Primary School could not have been better. As soon as I set foot in the school I was greeted by exceptionally friendly members of staff who could not do more to help and support me and this continued throughout my time there. I feel that the school is a brilliant place to complete any form of teacher training or work experience due to the extensive experience of the teachers, the support and encouragement which is given, and because of the excellent resources which the school has to offer.
Trainee Teacher P.G.C.E. Student
My final P.G.C.E. placement at Glen Hills Primary School was a fantastic experience and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I could not have asked for a better environment to train in! The minute I walked into this school, I could see immediately why this school was classed as ‘Outstanding’.
Glen Hills is a very friendly and welcoming school. I was made to feel like a member of staff right from the start of my placement and was lucky enough to have been offered a job at the school after completing my course. The support I gained was not only from my encouraging mentor but also from other experienced teaching staff who allowed me to observe, ask questions and learn from. Teaching staff across the school gave me opportunity for my voice to be heard and I felt valued as a trainee teacher in all phases.
All the staff at the school were highly trained individuals with a wealth of knowledge and experience to learn from. They were always willing to offer guidance and support and I learnt a great deal from them. I cannot thank the school enough for giving me such an amazing start to my teaching career.

School Direct Training Programme

School Direct is a new pathway for graduates who want to pursue a school-based training route into teaching. As a Lead School, Glen Hills works alongside the University of Northampton and our partnership schools to provide high quality training on the School Direct programme.
There are two types of School Direct programmes.
Under the School Direct (Salaried) route, a trainee will be employed by one of the partnership schools and receive a salary while they train to become a teacher. (This route provides an alternative to the Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) which comes to an end in 2013). Within our partnership of schools, you will be paid at least on point 1 of the unqualified teachers’ scale. The Lead School pays your training fees via this route.
Under the School Direct Training Programme a trainee will be based for a large part of their training in one of the partnership schools but will pay fees for their training programme. Student support is available for some students in this route (e.g. student loans) and trainees can also receive bursaries during training. Further details can be found at www.education.gov.uk.
